Blame and Responsibility

Who takes responsibility for our country, our constitution, our three branches of government, even our president? WE do.

Do WE point the finger at our governor because Florida is so expensive for actual Floridians to live here? Are our county commissioners to blame for our roads not being maintained? Do WE fault our city mayor for high water bills? WE do.

As citizens of The United States of America, Florida, Lake County and Clermont, WE blame and blame and blame some more. WE are blaming creatures.

It is so easy to point the finger, to blame our representatives for everything – stock market ups and downs, high gas prices, even weather which makes as much sense as blaming our parents for our own birth. However, WE love to blame everyone except ourselves.

My mother always said when WE point a finger at someone, WE are pointing three back at ourselves. One step forward and three steps back. Blaming always comes back at US.

Throwing blame stems from an underlying need to protect one’s ego and avoid accountability. Sounds like our current political climate. When people are confronted with a problem and cannot find a solution, blame arises.  It shows our inadequacies and emotional limitations. The blame game is just that, a game where winning is the only reward however nothing gets accomplished. The problem still exists. In fact, blame is the easiest form of governance. Our motto is blaming the other side for everything except when WE look good.

An accusatory finger is the most common form of skirting the issue. Look at true, honorable leaders. They say the buck stops with me. They take weight off of blame, because that is exactly what blame is – dead weight. The back and forth of blaming one side or the other is a sign of immaturity. Political parties are notorious for throwing blame around like confetti at a birthday party.

Happy Birthday America and grow up. WE are 250 years old, and WE still point the finger.

The opposite of blame is responsibility. In fact, WE cannot do both at the same time. Just like gratitude and depression. Pick one and make it responsible.
With all this blaming, WE do not form a more perfect union. We go backwards. We create chaos. Ultimately, WE have only US to blame.
Blame has no place in America. Responsibility, ownership and accountability does!

This is our country. This is our tribe. When WE stop blaming and take responsibility, we also take ownership. WE are the people, and it is our responsibility to get our country back in order.  Every chance WE have to express our opinion is a chance to take responsibility for our country. So, are we a country of blamers or a country of responsible citizens? Which are WE, America?

When it is all said and pointed at, the one thing WE cannot do at the same time is blame and take responsibility. Do WE spend our time pointing the finger or taking ownership of this great nation of ours? Choose wisely, America because WE have only two choices – a country WE own or a blamer of nothing.
